The worst thing you can do is to beat yourself up for not getting what you want


Are you the kind of person that focuses on what you did wrong instead of what you did right?

We’re all guilty of being too hard on ourselves when we’ve failed at something, whether in our personal lives or in business. Even we’ve done great things, it’s the letdowns that eat us up and keep us awake at night.

And I get it.

Sometimes, when we celebrate our successes, we’re also worried that other people might think we’re being arrogant and cocky. That’s why we’d rather not shout about the amazing things we’ve done and keep it to ourselves.

But you see, that’s the wrong attitude.

We need to be our own cheerleaders

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of your own achievements, big or small. Sometimes we need to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. Only focusing on failures is not healthy, is not productive, and is not conducive to long term success.

Don’t worry about what people will say. It’s only a small percentage of people that will actually make the effort to say bad things about how you’re celebrating your successes.

And believe me, you don’t want to be working with those people anyway. What you need to surround yourself with are people who are willing to acknowledge your triumphs and be genuinely happy for you. Think about how you can inspire people by the things you have done right.

It’s all about mindset

The other benefit of being your own cheerleader is that you’re helping yourself to build confidence in your own skills and abilities. The decisions we make in our business is usually based on how well we know ourselves and our capacity to move things forwards. If we don’t have faith in that capacity, it will manifest through the way we make choices, and ultimately, through our actions.

If we cheer for ourselves, we build a positive mindset, because it’s no longer just about winning, it become more about believing in the fact that you’re being the best version of yourself.

The difference between confidence and arrogance

Of course, you also need to draw that line between being confident and being arrogant. We all love confident people and we are always inspired by them. Arrogance, on the other hand, is a nasty and unattractive trait and must be avoided.

Make sure that when you’re cheering for yourself, the goal is to build confidence and not be arrogant towards people. Focus on the process that brought you to where you are and the attitude that went along with it, so that people will be inspired by your success, not annoyed by it.

In the end, there are loads of things we can cheer ourselves for, not just the successes but even a small progress from a bad situation into a better one. With what’s happening in the world right now, we all need that little dose of positivity every now and then, and what better way to start than celebrating your amazing self.
