What were the drivers for you wanting to work with a Business Coach?
To be honest, we’d never considered working with a Coach. We didn’t think we needed to. We always thought we’d find our own way in business. But we were growing and becoming busier – so when someone recommended we go along to one of REACH’s free seminars to find out more about Coaching, we thought we’ve got nothing to lose – so we went.
Everything Jas talked about completely resonated with us. We couldn’t believe what we were learning. So we met with Jas in a no-obligation meeting, and when he asked if we’d like to have one-to-one coaching with him, Jordan and I looked at each other and said ‘Yes’.
When you’re busy, it’s very easy to try and justify why you haven’t got the time to commit to something like this. That event was an instant game changer. It might sound like a cliché, but it’s true. Initially we were like rabbits in headlights – but it has been SO worth it.
Why did you choose REACH Business Coaching?
For lots of reasons. We made a connection with Jas and that’s so important. He’s real and relatable – he understands how important family is. He completely understands the dynamics of a husband-and-wife team. We trusted him – no question. He’s open, honest and we have never once felt judged or intimidated by him. He treats us as equals. He genuinely wants to help us achieve our goals – and when we achieve our milestones, he genuinely feels proud.
We started working with Jas two-months before COVID struck – and when most people were thinking about cutting back on expenditure, we knew we were never going to cut back on coaching with Jas. Working with him through the pandemic has transformed us and our business.
What were some of your specific challenges and outcomes?
There were a few!
Although we had several clients, most of our work was through one big client. With Jas’s guidance, we’ve now built a much wider and stable pipeline.
Before Covid, our turnover was sitting around £2 million. During Covid it dipped to around £750k. We had several million pounds worth of business lined-up with a client and then in one phone call, we lost a good chunk of it. Not because of something we’d done, but because of a business decision they made.
With Jas’s guidance our turnover has grown on solid foundations. For the year 2021 – 2022, we hit £2.3 million. This next financial year, our projected turnover is £8 million. Our target for 2024 is £12 million and for 2025, £20 million. We’re tripling our turnover this year and next which is incredible. We simply wouldn’t have achieved this without Jas’s support.
During our first Coaching session with Jas, there were three of us in the business. But as we grew and, with Jas’s encouragement, we took a leap of faith and recruited an Operations Manager, who we’ve since promoted to Operations Director. That was in 2020. We now employ an experienced senior management team with an ethos of developing and promoting talent from within.
Bringing new people on board is much simpler now because we use Jas’s recruitment process – and adapt it to suit our business. Before Jas, we thought we’d got these things covered – we soon realised we hadn’t. What we’ve learned, is that no matter how tough the recruitment market is, we won’t take someone on unless we’re confident they’re the right fit for us. We only recruit people who are going to add value to the team and business and helps to create the best culture within the team. We operate a ‘no blame’ culture. There’s no us and them – we’re completely open with our team.
Systems and Processes
Everything we knew about the business was in our heads. We didn’t have systems or processes in place. It’s hard to believe how much more efficient and consistent we’ve become since introducing them. We’re more streamlined and have a much better control of the business. It’s made our life a lot easier.
Something else we didn’t have was a marketing strategy. We do now. We have a robust strategy that works; and we’ve completely rebranded. We know more about our market than we’ve ever done – which means we have total clarity on where we add the most value to people who want us to build their residential and commercial properties. Jas got us through this pandemic by holding us accountable. He’s built us up, reminding us along the way why we’re doing it. He’s been an incredible shoulder to lean on.
Mindset was a new concept to us. Jas has taught us the importance of it which has created a massive change within us. It’s enabled us to make better decisions and to think outside the box. Now, when we’re faced with ‘negative news’ we have the ability to reframe it positively – not only in business, but in our personal life. It’s been life changing. We now instil this in our team and others around us.
What is it about Jas you’re buying into?
He’s coached us, challenged us and guided us. He encouraged us to expand our business during Covid – an unprecedented year. We understand what drives us – and what our values are. The new systems and processes we’ve introduced has given us a stable structure to grow. We understand our numbers – our cash flow and forecasts. He’s taught us the importance of gratitude – he’s changed our mindset. The difference Jas has made to us, and our business is quite simply staggering.
Working with a business Coach is an investment. We’re investing in Enrok. We’re investing in Laura and Jordan. We’re investing in our clients. What benefits us, benefits them and that can only be a good thing. Interestingly though, when we say to people we’re working with a Coach, they sometimes question why we’re doing it. It’s as if they see Coaching as a weakness – or that we’ve got something wrong, and someone has to fix it for us. But it’s the complete opposite. We recognised we needed help to grow, to become even better at what we do; and more successful. We’re proud of the decision we made.
Jas holds us accountable – that’s because we are accountable. He makes sure we do what we say we’re going to do. He pushes us outside of our comfort zone. He’s also the balance we need when making big decisions – we value his impartial advice.
What would you say to someone thinking about working with a business Coach?
Go and see Jas. Think of a Coach as an investment and not a cost, because that’s what they are. A Coach is invaluable to your business and helps you to grow as a person. You will never, ever, regret the decision. Instead, you will thank yourself.
