These central leadership values determine whether a company is destined to survive or fail

Effective business heads encourage confidence and respect through their actions and not just based on the words they say. As a Business Coach, I’ve had several businessmen tell me that integrity is important to them, but in fact, some of their actions point to the opposite direction. Remember, the purest form of motivating your people to do something is by showing them, not just telling them.

If you want to become a great boss around your employees, you need to create an environment where people thrive. To achieve this, you need to have a particular set of beliefs and mindset to influence those who are around you.

A successful leader inspires career growth for others and does not fear it

Some leaders have a fear that their cleverest, most diligent employees might end up surpassing them or making them look bad in front of others. This sometimes causes their reluctance to share insights or data or to enable authority.

If you want your business to succeed, you have to love to see your people grow. Instead of fearing it, groom and train your potential leaders. Studies show that the top priority for job seekers when applying for a position is the opportunity for growth. Great leaders want their best people to make the most of their potential, and they know that good feedback and guidance are invaluable.

A successful leader recognises unique skills and personalities; he does not treat employees as clones

Sometimes, business leaders tend to lump people together, trying to stimulate, incentivise and train everyone in the same way. Exceptional leaders treat people as unique individuals, recognising the fact that everyone has their own drive and style of learning. There’s a certain reward that makes each employee tick, and the best leaders will stop at nothing to determine what that is.

A successful leader sees that work can (and should) be enjoyable for everyone

If you see work as something that everyone has to do, whether they want to or not, then you’re most likely not going to get the push that you need from your employees. Your existence does not revolve around making sure that your employees are absolutely knackered at the end of the day because they’ve all worked too hard. If you love your job, then believe that everyone else can too. Make them feel like they don’t have to drag their bodies to work every day. Recognise accomplishments and douse people with positive feedback when they do good work. Give them the opportunity to appreciate how they contribute to the big picture.

A successful leader accepts conflict of ideas and methods

The problem with most leaders is that they always want their employees’ thinking to align with their own, and therefore, they favor only those who do not have the guts to disagree with them. They influence their people to think similarly as they do and reward those who would follow their lead without any reluctance or doubt.

I can immediately spot a great business leader just by knowing that he actively deals with a diverse range of personalities and philosophies. They expose themselves to new and progressive ways of discerning and making decisions.

A successful leader believes that change is an opportunity that should not be dreaded

Do you always go by how you’ve always done it? Do you believe that change is unnecessary and that it causes more harm than good? Then you will most likely burn your business to the ground. Great leaders view change as an opportunity for improvement and evolution. They try their best to constantly adapt their methods and embrace change to stay ahead of the curve.
